Many of us exert a lot of energy in our quest for perfection, but accidents, change, and imperfection are a part of our lives. These things that are beyond our control can bother and stress us. They can gnaw at us and nag at us. Learning to accept and embrace these imperfections can be quite a challenge.
How do you embrace imperfection in your life? If it’s difficult for you, what is behind the difficulty? If it’s easy for you, why is it so? In what small ways have you or can you accept the accidental, the imperfect, and the impermanent?
This is an ongoing struggle for me. I don't deal well with change in and of itself, let alone things outside of my control. I'm learning, through journaling and finding some more creative outlets to try to let go of my fears, worries, anger, distress, etc. Even last week, I mentioned to my husband, when our plans for the "perfect" anniversary trip fell through, "This is the perfectly imperfect analogy for our marriage. All these years, many things have not turned out the way we'd hoped, wished or wanted, but we've managed to get through whatever life has dealt us because we've done it together." Being married to my best friend, who is there with me no matter what, also makes it easier to accept when life happens while I'm busy making other plans. . .
ReplyDeleteHi guys...I'm glad to be back after a few weeks of being crazy-busy with work and the creation of 94 invitations to my upcoming wedding reception. I came back this afternoon to see what you were up to in terms of the weekly challenge, and was amazed at the timeliness of the new prompt! How did you know that the subject of my first journal page I'll be creating since I took a break would be about an imperfection I've been frustrated with lately? I can't wait to finish this page, and post my link! Thanks for your continuing inspiration, and for the provocative prompts!

Here's my journal page about a learning difficulty I've experienced since childhood. Thanks for inviting us to share these very personal details of our lives in this forum!

From the minute I read this prompt, all I could think about was my Crossfit training and how it keeps me sane.
